Y-3 Pens "A Love Letter to New York" for FW24
Debuting with a campaign starring A$AP Nast and Gabbriette.
Y-3 is making a long-awaited return to New York City for Fall/Winter 2024. Being international has become an essential part of Y-3, given the brand is a collaboration between the German-based adidas and designer Yohji Yamamoto, who works between Tokyo and Paris.
In the early 2010s, Y-3 showed its collections during New York Fashion Week before switching over to Paris. Entitled “A Love Letter to New York,” this season’s collection sees the brand pay homage to the city.
Max Vadukul, who captured Yamamoto’s Fall/Winter collection in New York in 1984, shot a black-and-white campaign against the city’s skyline. Starring two mainstays in contemporary fashion, Gabbriette and A$AP Nast, the collection emphasizes movement, scale and the concept of uniformity, seemingly inspired by the idea of the so-called all-black “New York uniform.”
In one look, Gabbriette wears a long black trench coat layered over a tracksuit jacket and paired with platform leather boots bearing adidas’ Three Stripes. Another sees her sport a single-sleeved mesh dress with a pair of platform Superstars.
Ferg wears the same platform boots along with a leather peacoat with a hood, layered over a Y-3 jacket. Each garment is underlined by Yamamoto’s approach of elegant yet dramatic and oversized tailoring.
“Shooting for Y-3 in New York felt like returning home,” Vadukul said. “The city’s architectural grandeur and diverse people continue to inspire my black-and-white photography. The essence of my photography lies in this interplay, making each visit to New York an inspiring and creatively fulfilling experience.”
