Take a First Look at Netflix’s Animated ‘Terminator’ Series
The 8-episode series premieres on the streamer next month.
A war is raging between humans and machines in Netflix’s animated take on Terminator. In Terminator Zero, an AI called Skynet gained self-awareness in 1997 and has since been on a mission to eradicate humans. The series is set between two timelines, 1997 and in the wartorn 2022.
A soldier named Eiko (Sonoya Mizuno) must travel back in time to prevent the course of events by protecting scientist Malcolm Lee (André Holland), who is working on an AI that’ll combat Skynet. Lee struggles to grapple with the moral complexities of his own work and simultaneously being hunted by an assassin from the future.
“You can’t see it yet, but you’ve been on a collision course your entire life,” Eiko says in a voiceover. “There’s no going back, not really. It will never, ever stop.”
The trailer also offers glimpses of the Terminator (Timothy Olyphant) on the hunt to kill Lee. The series’ voice cast also includes Rosario Dawson as an AI bot named Kokoro and Ann Dowd as the Prophet, who serves as a philosophical leader in the movement against AI.
