Lewis Hamilton Wins 2024 British Grand Prix, Ending 945-Day Dry Spell
Simultaneously breaking the F1 record for most wins on a single track.
Lewis Hamilton has broken a 945-day dry spell by winning the 2024 British Grand Prix. The Mercedes-Benz driver beat out his main competitors, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris, for his first Grand Prix win since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah.
The win marks Hamilton’s ninth victory at his home Grand Prix, which also saw him break the record as the F1 driver with the most wins on a single track. Hamilton was previously tied with German Michael Schumacher. Hamilton also continues to hold the record with 104 wins throughout his career, along with other accolades.
It was also his last British Grand Prix racing for Mercedes as Hamilton will be moving to Ferrari in 2025.
“It’s so tough, I think for anyone,” Hamilton said post-race, according to Motorsport. “But I think the important thing is just how you continue to get up in this and you have got to continue to dig deep, even when you feel to feel like you’re at the bottom of the barrel.”
“But the important thing is I have great people around me continuing to support me,” he continued. My team, every time I turn up and see them put in the effort, that really encouraged me to do the same thing.”
