Ye Says He Will Not Be Dropping 'VULTURES 2' on Streaming Platforms
Instead, he plans to sell the album for $20 USD on his website.
Another day, another update on Ye‘s new project. As Ye and Ty Dolla $ign gear up to drop VULTURES 2, the artist has informed fan account @yefanatics of the updates on the album.
After confirming that Ye and Ty will be playing both albums VULTURES 1 and 2 plus an extra track “Slide” at the listening party on the evening of March 10, Ye also answered burning questions from the fan account. Via a direct message, he said, “Was talking with the team about how to release the next album.” He added, “Like James Blake said streaming devalues our music. We sell albums on Yeezy.com. I got 20 million Instagram followers. When 5% of my followers buy an album. That’s 1 million albums sold. That’s 300k more than the biggest album last year. We sold 1 million items on Yeezy.com on Super Bowl Sunday so we know it’s possible. How do you feel about us not streaming and only selling the album digitally.” In a recent statement on Instagram regarding his thoughts on the current music industry, James Blake was vocal on how he believed artists are being exploited due to the streaming-dominated economy.
Seemingly resonating with Ye, it appears that the Chicago artist is planning on only releasing the album through his website, selling it for $20 USD on Yeezy.com. $20 USD seems to be the magic number with Ye, recently stating that all his products would also be sold online for that amount. It remains to be seen if Ye will follow through or if this will only be a work in progress. Take a look at the conversation below.
