Amazon Video Previews TV Series Based on SEGA’s ‘Yakuza’ Video Game
‘Like A Dragon: Yakuza’ premieres on the streamer this fall.
Just last month, Amazon Video revealed that it would be adapting SEGA’s long-running Yakuza game into a live-action TV series. While the game franchise is technically called Like A Dragon, it’s largely referred to simply as Yakuza.
The streamer unveiled the first teaser for its forthcoming show, entitled Like A Dragon: Yakuza, at San Diego Comic-Con. While the preview doesn’t delve into plotlines, scenes from the underground are interspersed with close-ups of skin being tattooed. Viewers see glimpses of an extravagant party, a stack of cash and a man training to fight.
The show takes place between 1995 and 2005 and focuses on Kazuma Kiryu (Ryoma Takeuchi) and his adventures through the fictional Kamurochō, based on Japan’s red light district. At Comic-Con, it was announced that Takeuchi would be starring alongside Kaku Kento as antagonist Nishikiyama Akira, a childhood friend of Kiryu who joins a rival gang.
